Narcissists will often damage their own finances. And they will even damage the financial position of those around them. Because they are not good with money. They misuse it. They use it in the wrong way. They use it for the wrong purpose. Which often results in devastating consequences. But if you are aware of it, you may be able to prevent it from happening. So here are 5 toxic money habits of narcissists.
1. They will be secretive about their finances. They will want to know exactly how much money you're earning. And how much you're keeping in your bank account. But they will never tell you how much money they have or what they're earning. They will always keep it hidden from you. Because they are very controlling. And they are trying to gain power. But they will spend your money. Or save it along with their own money behind your back. While acting as though they don't have anything. And they will use the money that they've saved to manipulate and control other people.
2. They will spend all of your money. They will spend your money on designer items. They will walk around flaunting their new bags or shoes, as though they earned it. As though they worked hard for it. While you're left struggling to pay the bills or to pay for the children. But they will lie about what they're spending the money on. Or they will get you to focus on your spending. Even though you may be the one who earned it. Because they're trying to hide the fact that they are impulsive and reckless with money. Especially when it starts to reveal itself, when you don't have any money left to pay the bills. They have a strong sense of entitlement. They believe that they are inherently deserving of privileges and special treatment. So in their minds, nothing should stop them from getting what they want. Even if you have to go into debt. Even if you have to struggle financially. That doesn't matter to them. As long as they can get what they want.
3. They are competitive with money. They're constantly comparing themselves to other people. They're always looking at what other people have got. And they're competing with them. They're trying to be better than them. But it doesn't make any sense, because they're doing it at your expense. So even if there was a competition, they wouldn't even be in the game. Because they didn't earn it. They didn't put in the work. But narcissists don't see it that way. They think that if they've got it, then it's theirs. They don't think about the deception or the lies that they told to get it.
All that matters to them is whether they have it or not. Which is why many of them are scammers and con artists. Because they're very lazy. They don't want to work. They don't want to get a job. And a lot of people don't want to do that, but they still do it. Because there's just no other option for them. They're not going to resort to scamming people, if they are kind and decent. Because they want to own their own life. Instead of trying to control things that belong to someone else. But this is what narcissists will do. They will try to control your stuff. Because they want to live a lavish life at your expense. And they will end up destroying you financially.
4. They have different priorities. They will skip the essential things that you need. The things that are absolutely necessary. But then they will go and spend the money on superficial things. Because they use these things to support their false image. To show the world how great they are. When in reality, they're just using your money to create a false display. Or they're cutting back on essential things So they may be driving a luxury car, while your car is falling apart. Because they need to have their car. But fixing your car doesn't do anything for their image.
5. They are hypocrites. They believe that the rules do not apply to them. But they will enforce the rules on you. They will spend your money on themselves. But then they will criticise you for spending your own money. Money which you have worked for. Which is hypocritical. And it reveals their dishonest nature. It reveals that they lack moral principles.
